04/03/2008 - Lou Macari: Negative attitudes no help to Alex

I would have thought the last thing Crewe needed in their dressing-room right now was any kind of mutiny from their players.

Hearing that on-loan winger Gary Roberts had to be subbed at half-time because he didn't want to carry out his manager's instructions is sad and indicative of a player's attitude in the modern game.

They want to wake up and smell reality. Can you imagine your average office or factory worker behaving that way towards his boss?

You wouldn't be cold-shouldered for the next 45 minutes, you'd be collecting your cards and waving farewell to your colleagues, wouldn't you?

I hear hands have now been shaken and I can only hope there's been no lasting damage to the Alex cause.

Morale is crucial for a team in their position and you want everyone chipping in to do their best for the team.

Roberts should reflect that it was Steve Holland who brought him to Crewe because he thought he could make a difference, so it's Steve Holland deserving a little more respect than he seems to have been shown on Saturday.

Perhaps the player's attitude is indicative of why Ipswich were prepared to let him go out on loan in the first place.

But at least there is still time to make amends and help Crewe get out of that bottom four in the process.
